Pre Workout Supplements in India | Energy, Focus & Workout Performance

A pre workout supplement is a drink taken 20-30 minutes before training to raise energy, sharpen focus and increase blood flow to working muscles. 5XL Nutrition makes three, and they are deliberately different from each other: one high-stimulant, one beginner-friendly, one completely caffeine-free.

Most Indian brands publish a flavour and stop there. Below is the full comparison – caffeine per scoop, scoop size, servings per tub and who each formula is actually built for. Use it to pick correctly the first time.

Alpha Male Pre Workout – 100 g

Start here if you have never used a pre workout. Alpha Male is a fully disclosed 5 g formula: L-Citrulline 800 mg, Beta-Alanine 1000 mg, Caffeine 200 mg, L-Tyrosine 200 mg and Taurine 200 mg, with beetroot and Juglans regia (walnut) extracts, Vitamin C, Vitamin B3 and Himalayan pink salt.

The 100 g tub gives you 25 servings – enough to learn how your body responds without committing to a large pack. Mix one scoop in 200-250 ml water, 20-30 minutes before training. Do not exceed two servings a day.

Available in Litchi and Orange. View Alpha Male →

Red Eyes Intense Pre Workout – 250 g

Our hardest-hitting formula. Red Eyes is built for lifters who have already used pre workout and want more intensity – heavy compound sessions, peak weeks, training when you are under-slept. It is not a beginner product; if you are new, start on Alpha Male and move up.

One scoop in 200-250 ml water, 20-30 minutes before training. Beginners should start with half a scoop.

Available in Litchi and Zesty Orange. View Red Eyes →

Pump House Stimulant-Free Pre Workout – 250 g

Zero caffeine. Pump House delivers blood flow, endurance and hydration without touching your nervous system – built on L-Citrulline and Citrulline Malate, Beta-Alanine and an electrolyte blend.

That makes it the right choice for three groups Indian brands usually ignore: runners and endurance athletes who don’t want an elevated heart rate, anyone training after 7 pm who still wants to sleep, and people who get jittery on caffeine. It is also the one you can use on days you have already had coffee.

One scoop (10-12 g) in 250-300 ml water, 20-30 minutes before training. Usable at any time of day.

Available in Litchi and Zesty Orange. View Pump House →

Why Choose 5XL Nutrition

India’s supplement market has a counterfeit problem. Buying an imported tub from a marketplace seller tells you nothing about what is actually in it. Here is what buying direct from us gives you instead.

Every batch can be verified before you open it

Every 5XL product carries a verification code you can check on our Verify Product page before you use it. If the code doesn’t check out, it isn’t ours. Very few Indian supplement brands offer this, and it is the single most useful thing you can do to protect yourself from fakes.

We publish our doses

Look at the Alpha Male panel above – 800 mg citrulline, 1000 mg beta-alanine, 200 mg caffeine, stated in milligrams. No “proprietary blend” hiding a small sprinkle behind a big total. You can compare us against any brand on the shelf, and we would rather you did.

Formulated for Indian training conditions

Most global pre workout formulas are designed for air-conditioned gyms. A lot of Indian training happens in non-AC gyms through 35-40°C summers, which changes how much you sweat and what you need alongside stimulants. That is why our stimulant-free option carries an electrolyte blend rather than treating hydration as an afterthought.

A range built around when you train, not just how hard

Three formulas, three different jobs. A high-stimulant option for peak sessions, a moderate one to start on, and a caffeine-free one for evening training and running. Most brands sell one formula and expect you to fit around it.

A real Indian company you can reach

Key Ingredients in Pre Workout Formulas

  • A pre workout is only as good as its dose list. These are the ingredients that do the actual work, what each one is there for, and which 5XL product contains it.

L-Citrulline and Citrulline Malate – the pump ingredient

Citrulline is a precursor to nitric oxide, which widens blood vessels and increases blood flow to working muscle. This is what produces the “pump” – fuller, more vascular muscles during training. It is the ingredient most responsible for how a pre workout feels in the muscle rather than in the head.

In our range: Alpha Male (800 mg per 5 g scoop) and Pump House (L-Citrulline plus Citrulline Malate).

    Beta-Alanine – the endurance ingredient

Beta-alanine is a precursor to carnosine, which acts as a buffer inside the muscle during high-intensity work. It is the ingredient people take for the last few reps of a hard set.

The tingling across your face, neck and hands that starts a few minutes after drinking is called paraesthesia. It is a well-documented and expected effect of beta-alanine, not a sign that something is wrong, and it fades as your body adapts.

In our range: Alpha Male (1000 mg per scoop) and Pump House.

Caffeine – the energy and focus ingredient

Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant. It raises alertness and lowers your perception of how hard a set feels, which is why it is in almost every pre workout on the market.

It is also the ingredient people get wrong most often. Caffeine has a half-life of roughly five to six hours, so a 5 pm serving is still substantially in your system at 11 pm. Count what you have already had that day – a cup of filter coffee or a strong chai is not zero.

In our range: Alpha Male (200 mg per scoop). Red Eyes is our high-stimulant option (200 mg per scoop). Pump House contains none.

L-Tyrosine – the mental focus ingredient

Tyrosine is a precursor to dopamine and noradrenaline. It is included for concentration and drive, particularly in demanding or long sessions, and is often paired with caffeine to smooth out the focus rather than just the stimulation.

In our range: Alpha Male (200 mg per scoop).

Taurine – the cell hydration ingredient

Taurine is an amino acid included in performance formulas to support cellular hydration and electrolyte balance during training.

In our range: Alpha Male (200 mg per scoop).

Electrolytes – sodium, potassium and minerals

You lose sodium and potassium in sweat, and Indian gym conditions mean you lose a lot of it. Electrolytes in a pre workout support hydration and normal muscle function through a long or hot session.

In our range: Pump House (electrolyte blend), Alpha Male (Himalayan pink salt), and our dedicated Sports Fuel hydration formula.

    Beetroot and nitrate sources

Beetroot extract is a dietary nitrate source, working on the same nitric-oxide pathway as citrulline from a different direction. It is a common pairing in pump-focused formulas.

In our range: Alpha Male (beetroot and Juglans regia extract).

    Vitamins B3 and C

B-vitamins are involved in normal energy metabolism, and Vitamin C is a standard inclusion in performance formulas.

In our range: Alpha Male (Vitamin C and Vitamin B3).

What you should not see on a label
    • Proprietary blends. A blend labelled “6 g Energy Matrix” tells you nothing about how much of each ingredient you are getting.
    • Under-dosed marquee ingredients. An ingredient listed at a fraction of its studied dose is there for the label, not for you.
    • No FSSAI licence number. Every supplement legally sold in India must carry one.

Why Use Pre Workout Supplements?

A pre workout does one job: it makes the next 60 to 90 minutes of training better than they would otherwise have been. Here is specifically how.

1. Energy on the days you don’t have any

The workout you skip is the one that costs you progress. Pre-workout is most valuable not on the days you feel great, but at 6 am before work, or at 8 pm after a bad day – the sessions you would otherwise have talked yourself out of. Consistency, not any single session, is what builds a physique.

2. Focus instead of scrolling between sets

Caffeine and L-tyrosine sharpen concentration and reaction time. In practice this shows up as shorter rest periods, fewer distractions and a denser session in the same amount of time.

3. Better pumps and blood flow

Citrulline raises nitric oxide, which widens blood vessels and moves more oxygen and nutrients into working muscle. This is the visible, immediate effect most people associate with pre workout.

4. More reps before fatigue sets in

Beta-alanine buffers the muscle during high-intensity work, which is where the extra rep or two comes from on your last hard set. Over months, those extra reps accumulate into real volume.

5. Training in heat without falling apart

Electrolytes matter more in Indian conditions than most global formulas assume. Hydration support in a pre workout is a practical benefit here, not a marketing line.

6. Something to use when you can’t have caffeine

This is the benefit almost no brand talks about. If you train at night, run, or are caffeine-sensitive, a stimulant-free pre workout gives you the blood flow and endurance benefits without the sleep cost. That is the entire reason Pump House exists.

How to use pre workout correctly
  • Take it 20-30 minutes before you start, not as you walk in.
  • Start with half a scoop on your first ever serving, whichever product you choose.
  • Don’t take it after about 5 pm unless it is stimulant-free.
  • Drink water throughout the session, not just with the scoop.
  • Cycle stimulants – a week off every 6-8 weeks keeps 200 mg feeling like 200 mg.
  • Don’t stack two stimulant products in the same session.
